The overall cleanliness of the room was good; however, the towels were smelly and couldn't be used at all. The bedsheets were clean.
Fantastic Stay – Highly Recommend! I had an excellent experience at this hotel. The location was perfect—just a short walk to the town center, quayside, and surrounded by great local cafés and restaurants. The room was clean and comfortable, making for a very pleasant two-night stay. The continental breakfast was amazing, with a great variety and quality. I’d definitely love to stay here again if I visit Newcastle in the future!
I enjoyed my stay - the room was quiet and the bed comfy. I also really enjoyed my brekkie, with one of your staff getting me an oat milk latte to ease me into the day. Consider enabling that in the machine as they do in Helsinki hotels. The room was a bit tired, and one of the lights didn't work.
Excellent location, friendly helpful staff, comfortable rooms.Ten minute walk to central station and many bars and restaurants
We have family in Newcastle and stay a couple times a year. Motel One is perfectly placed in the centre near to the metro. Staff are very pleasant and obliging and the rooms are always comfortable and roomy. We wouldn’t stay anywhere else.
The hotel was in a great location and within walking distance of everywhere we wanted to go. The staff addressed all of our concerns and questions about the city and points of interest in a friendly and helpful way. They went above and beyond to help - excellent customer service. The room was comfortable and anything we requested (extra toilet paper, bedding etc) was provided promptly.
Lovely hotel Easy check in and check out
Very central location within walking distance from shops, restaurants, bus station, train station and all other main attractions. Very comfortable room, (the only thing they can improve on are the pillows, not so comfy) staff are all very friendly and helpful.
A repeat stay for us because we live the location of the hotel but this time our room was let down by the very poor shower, almost no pressure, almost impossible to even rinse the soap off, tried all settings but barely more than a trickle 😢
Comfortable laid back hotel, comfortable beds & good shower. Staff were excellent so friendly and helpful. Room was quiet even though the hotel was busy. Storing our luggage after checkout was priceless. We thought the price of breakfast a little too high so we ate out.
Clean room lovely.
Easy booking East check in Rooms well equipped and clean lovely staff
Absolutely amazing staff hotel was clean and went beyond my expectations
Very lovely hotel. The staff were helpful and friendly.
Nice hotel in heart of Newcastle. Receptionist could have been more warm and welcoming after a long journey.
Great staff, security, setting.
Everything was great - the room, the service, it was clean and nice. Breakfast could have been more rich, that's the only thing.
Excellent stay. Room was comfortable and very clean. Only marked down by fire alarm going off late at night and then in the morning.
For me this hotel is poor due to false fire alarms going off, once repeatedly on / off at around 11.40pm, which not only woke me but went on so long I had to get dressed & exit the room. Then started again at around 7.15am while I was in the shower. In addition my shower was horrendous, the water pressure so low that I could hardly even get my hair wet. Let alone have any chance of washing it. No apologies either from receptionist over the fire alarm issue.
Unfortunately, this was one of the worst experiences I had in a hotel. The room was constantly cold. There is no chance that the temperature in the room could be controlled in any way. Breakfast was basic, literally. The door of my room was not locking properly. I had the stress that someone will enter my room. The door would lock only if you literally bang it with force. One more, the fire alarm. Smoking in rooms was not allowed (obviously). Someone did not follow the rule (at least this is what we were told). The result was the fire alarm went on for like 10min at 11:45pm. I was already in bed. All the residents in my floor forced to leave our rooms. Surprisingly, exactly the same happened at 7am in the morning. Can you imagine? The story that someone smoked is not convincing at all. The room is not properly cleaned. You can sense dust everywhere!!! I would strongly recommend to avoid this awful place! You will regret it! The only exemption is the friendly Asian guy in the reception!
I had booked direct for 2 adults and an 8 year old child. On arrival there was no bed made up for the child. Attended reception and staff attended promptly to make up additional bed however would have expected this to be noted on booking. Fire alarm went off twice during stay (around 11.45pm and 6am) so an interrupted night sleep. I appreciate this may not have been preventable and no fault of staff. Bed was comfortable and pillows very good. Cleanliness to room could have been better (dirt marks on switches and in morning discovered cigarette end in fold out sofa bed). A mixed review.
The staff were amazing on check in. Friendly and welcoming. The hotel has beautiful decor on arrival. The bed was so comfy. My only concerns were that my room smelled like bad plumbing, which was a little off putting! The fire alarm unfortunately went off twice in the night, and I didn’t see any staff to let me know where to go or if it was real.
Excellent room friendly staff in a great location
The room was basic but quite stylish, lovely bathroom! Downstairs areas were also very stylish and gave the impression of a much more expensive hotel. Staff were excellent - very friendly! My only niggle was that when I put my keycard in to operate the lights, there was a buzzing noise that got louder as time went on which meant I had to remove it when I was going to sleep meaning I had to try and feel my way back to the bed in the pitch dark.....other than that, I enjoyed my stay (and your cocktails are great too!) :-)
An excellent stay at the Newcastle hotel. Staff were incredibly friendly, and the rooms well maintained and with good facilities. My only small issue was that I felt the room could have been a little cleaner, particularly the shower tray. I would definitely stay here again.
Had an excellent stay here; the Motel is in a great location, well-appointed and quiet when we were there but might be noisier at weekends. The public areas waere spacious and comfortable and the bar reasonably priced with long opening hours. Breakfast is avaikable but we didn't have it. The staff were professional and friendly and the overall experience provided excellent value for money.
Reception area and welcome check in were more than satisfactory. Booked through corporate account. When I arrived at my room I was very disappointed as had been allocated room 259 which was an accessible room. A standard double had been booked. Where the room was clean it’s probably one of the most depressing rooms I’ve stayed in! A picture or two hanging on the walls would at least make it more appealing! The accessible bathroom was functional that’s all I can say. I didn’t book an accessible room. I went downstairs and asked a member of staff how they allocate rooms and he was quite dismissive saying that’s what you would have booked and the email would confirm it. No offer of another room. Rooms were all booked as Standard Double. It was only one night so I however out of the 12 or so colleagues I think 3 of us had an accessible room and listened to others saying how lovely their room/bathroom was!!! On checking out I asked the same question to receptionist who told me a completely different reason : we allocate the rooms until we have used them up and then start to use the accessible rooms! Who is telling the truth? My experience would prevent me from booking this hotel on future visits!
The receptionist was so lovely at check in as was the Italian bar tender. I met a member of cleaning staff in the lift who was also incredibly friendly. The breakfast
The room itself was nice and the staff were so friendly and helpful. I did have problems with the room not being properly cleaned though, with coffee stains all over the cupboards and hair left in the bathroom. Another problem I had was that the room was absolutely freezing and you can't change the temperature on the thermostat.
Found the room too hot even with the window open. A fridge would have been good especially as the room was so hot.
Useful location Room spartan Bed is basically OK but the combination of covers/sheets is not ideal - I have to unmake the bed to get the covers to keep me warm. I hate cushions - just leave them out.
Only one negative comment about Motel one. The chairs around the bar area are quirky / stylish but a lot of them are very uncomfortable to occupy. Put us off from visiting the bar unfortunately. The hotel in general is clean and comfortable and very nicely situated in the center of newcastle.
Everything was perfect. Everyone who works there was meticulously polite and helpful. My room was lovely. It was so clean that you'd think that nobody had ever stayed in it before and the bed was so comfy that I wanted to take it home with me! Breakfast was great. Everything was fresh and there was a really good choice. Oh and the nicest croissant that I've ever had. There is clearly a lot of thought and care put into the rooms and the experience and all the little details that make it a lovely place to stay. I wish I'd been there for more than one night.
Amazing location. Lovely decor. Clean rooms. Wonderful staff.
I booked a standard room for 3 nights. When we arrived, our room was not ready so we were told for £20 a night extra, we could check in immediately to an upgraded room with a wardrobe and sofa. We got to the room and it was the standard room, not upgraded. We told the front desk and they assigned us to a different room. That room had a wardrobe, but no sofa. We told the front desk and they asked if we wanted to move again. I did not feel like moving out suitcases AGAIN. So, I basically paid £60 extra for nothing. There were 2 chairs in the room, but the one at the desk was broken. The first morning, we put the 'Do not clean' sign on the door, but the second day we wanted the room cleaned and didn't put the sign on, but they did NOT clean the room. The lounge and bar were very nice.
To be honest I was quite disappointed with the stay. Firstly we booked a king suite which was and felt very small, the bed was 2 singles put together. After first night asked to either be moved or refunded due to this. It states on booking that bed is a king not 2 singles. 2nd room was a queen on a split floor better room but still split beds put together, although these were better assembled and more spacious room. Paid for breakfast but again didn’t state it was a continental breakfast so not worth the price you charged. I use multiple hotels for pleasure and work and to be frank if i ever had to use again a double bed will be used as that way I won’t waken up with a sore back.
clean, comfortable, quiet and reasonably priced
Great Value Great Location Great Staff Great Bed (and Sleep) Great Bar & Lounge Area What is not to like? Will definitely return and would highly recommend, although the continental breakfast was a little pricey, but decent.
Great service, check in and atmosphere
The hotel staff are very friendly but the room was the coldest I’ve ever stayed in and the bathroom had a bad smell and the shower didn’t work disappointed for the cost
Excellent. Value for money. The Bar, general lobby and the court yard was fantastic considering the price paid. It was best value for money. Rooms were large and comfy. The staff was very courteous. Booking.com cancelled my booking on the day I arrived and the hotel was able to reinstate the booking, for the same price. Not sure why booking.com cancelled the booking, as I had used the same credit card before.
Lovely motel in the heart of Newcastle. Ideal for a one night stopover or a longer break .
Left some items in my room, was collected and posted out to me. Much appreciated and would absolutely stay again and recommend.
Always a great stay. Lovely property, clean rooms with a comfy bed and great shower.
The hotel is located fantastic, was so quiet in the rooms, and slept really well. Staff were great
Lovely hotel friendly staff good continental breakfast will definitely stay again
An amazing stay. Very handsome nice man on reception and bar during the evening.
I appreciate that the staff were helpful and that you have many happy customers, but next time I will be looking for somewhere else. I found the brown decor dingy and several details short of satisfactory. There was no guest brochure in the room to explain anything. No stand to unpack a case, except the ugly easy-chair. The little table didn't have a proper chair to sit on. The bedside lighting should be accessible without having to get up. Most of all I like to relax watching tv, which was also a hurdle. The channel numbers were all in the 800s, rearranged in order, mixed up with radio, and without programme information to assist in surfing. For instance, I would have watched MOTD on Weds evening had I known it was on, which a functioning guide would have shown, and might even have left a better review. I didn't die or drown so I keep these things in proportion, but not impressed.
Excellent hotel in the heart of the city centre.
Well located, friendly staff and clean rooms

Full of natural charm
Our centrally-located Motel One Newcastle is warmed by the charm of raw brickwork, in the form of a genuine brick façade with an industrial style harking back to the history of this working-class city. The interior design takes as its motif the bridges over the Tyne, and the stylish faux-industrial bar pays homage to the achievements of Robert Stephenson, who designed the Rocket steam locomotive. Real leather furniture by Baxter and fine rugs by Jan Kath complement the look. Elegant details such as chairs by Arketipo with distinctive steel frames, and mirrored shelving stocked with carafes of whisky add touches of charm.
And of course, it is no accident that the striped wallpaper at reception is in Newcastle United colours. Even the location in the city’s historic centre suits the industrial-modern style of our affordable Design Hotel. Sights such as the Theatre Royal, Grey’s Monument and Newcastle Town Hall are close at hand, the hotel is handy for the central station, and the airport is easily accessible.
Book your room in our Design Hotel and experience the rich contrasts between “old” industrial and “new” modern design.
