Aachen - In the footsteps of kings and emperors
Ahh, Aachen. Charlemagne’s former residence, the place where countless German kings and emperors were crowned – and a spot beloved by none other than Emperor Napoleon. At our Aachen design hotel, you should enjoy every comfort your noble predecessors did all those years ago – at prices ordinary people can afford. During your stay at our Motel One, you can enjoy free Wi-Fi, friendly service, stylish rooms with comfortable boxspring beds – and a carefully selected interior design inspired by the hotel’s surroundings. Aachen has plenty of delights to offer your palate, too: you simply must try the Aachener Printen biscuit, the local speciality. We can also serve you a varied organic breakfast in our One Lounge, a coffee to relax with in the afternoon and a nightcap in our bar in the evening.
Motel One – affordable design hotels in Aachen
Expect a warm welcome at our affordable hotel in the heart of historic Aachen’s Old Town. Here, you’ll find the Theater Aachen, whose foundation stone was laid by Kaiser Friedrich Wilhelm III. in 1822. The same year saw work begin on the Elisenbrunnen, just a few minutes from the hotel. One of the architectural highlights of the city, it pumps spa water from the ‘Kaiserquelle’. After all, Aachen became a spa town back in the 17th century and holds official spa designation to this day, with over 30 thermal springs. Our Aachen design hotel is also within walking distance of the town’s most recognisable landmark – Aachen Cathedral. In the 1970s, together with the Cathedral Treasury, it was the first German monument to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Yet Aachen has more than just important historic roots to recommend it. The city is home to RWTH Aachen University, one of the biggest technical universities in Europe, with its own long and rich history, and has established itself as a hub for innovative new technology in North Rhine-Westphalia.
A hotel fit for royalty – in the heart of Europe
From the Burtscheid spa district and the Mediterranean vibes in Hof to medieval Körbergasse and student quarter Pontviertel, the city is now a funky mix of the modern and the traditional, home to students and families, young and old.
Germany’s westernmost city also borders Belgium and the Netherlands, giving it a uniquely European flavour. Cultural influences from neighbouring regions abound – especially in the local architecture. Aachen’s location – on the outskirts of the Eifel mountains and the High Fens, with Maastricht, Cologne, Bonn and Düsseldorf practically on the doorstep – also makes it a great base for city daytrips and exploring the nearby countryside. Whatever brings you to the point where Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands meet – we can’t wait to offer you a royal welcome to our Aachen hotel!
