Stuttgart-Hauptbahnhof

As the name suggests, our Motel One Stuttgart-Hauptbahnhof is handily located next to Stuttgart’s main railway station. And if you arrive by train, you’ll notice that there’s more to Baden-Württemberg’s capital than its interesting city centre and popular tourist sights such as the Old and New Palaces, the Porsche Museum and the Cannstatter Wasen festival grounds.

Because Schduagerd, as the locals call it, is nestled between woodland and vines in the Stuttgart Basin, and its enchanting surroundings are a source of excellent walking and even more excellent wine. It’s not far from our hotel to the first of the vineyards, as the vines extend right down to the city centre by the station. Which makes Motel One Stuttgart-Hauptbahnhof the perfect place to start your vineyard walk – and to enjoy a drop or two at the end of an active day.

On the back wall of the reception area, Stuttgart-based artist Anja Klafki’s ‘WanderWonderLand’ hints at what Stuttgart has to offer. The piece, which combines individual prints on hand-made paper and printed acrylic glass, represents a tour of Stuttgart and the surrounding area, depicting locations that are easily accessible from the station.

SPOILT FOR CHOICE

The artwork, which fills the entire wall, shows a range of local attractions, from the Swabian Alps to the wine-growing regions on the Rems and the Neckar, from the Swabian-Franconian Forest to the Black Forest, as well as city landmarks such as the TV Tower, the opera house and the New Palace. One thing is certain – you won’t be stuck for things to see and do!

But, of course, there’s plenty to discover in our hotel too. Our display, based on a railway departure board, lists stations that are mentioned in the popular local children’s song about train travel ‘Auf der Schwäbsche Eisebahne’. Take a seat on one of the Gubi Beetle Chairs and try singing along. Warning: once heard, never forgotten!

A LEAFY SPOT

The tune still firmly lodged in your head, make your way to the outdoor terrace (a sea of lush greenery in the summer months) to soak up some sunshine. When the weather’s good, you’ll probably find the odd bee buzzing around to join in the chorus.
WINE BAR

The bar – at the heart of the Lounge – is very much focused on local wine. But of course other drinks are available too! The arrangement of bevelled glass plates on the back wall is designed to evoke vines in a vineyard. The installation is illuminated by a spectacular, ceiling-mounted ‘28 Copper’ light by Bocci, its multicoloured glass pendants resembling grapes.

NATURAL LOOK

The green, pink and brown shades of the furnishings echo the colours of the vineyards to complete the cosy ambience. Sink into the quirky ‘Belt Sofa’ or one of the velvety ‘Redondo’ armchairs, which are easy to arrange in groups for a spontaneous private wine tasting. In between these contemporary pieces by Moroso, wood slice tables add a drop of rustic flair.

AND RELAX

After your wine or walking adventure, head to your box-spring bed for a well-earned rest. You’ll find a section of Anja Klafki’s visual exploration of Stuttgart and its surroundings in your room too. Perhaps you’ll recognise some of the things you saw during the day, or find inspiration for tomorrow’s itinerary? In either case – good night or, as they say around these parts, Guads Nächdle!
