FRESH FROM THE MARKET
Motel One Rotterdam is located just around the corner from the city’s spectacular market hall – or “Markthal” in Dutch. We drew our inspiration for the interior design of the hotel from the bright, vibrant colours and hustle and bustle of the market.
OFF THE WALL
As soon as you step into the lobby, your eyes will be drawn to the floor-to-ceiling shelving made from steel cables and plant boxes. It imitates the architectural details of the market hall’s façade, while the bright displays of the market stalls are abstractly represented by the colourful background.
THE PERFECT COMBINATION
Our fifth-floor lounge is packed with a colourful mix of furniture. Also on display: flowers! Not just at the market, but also under your feet with the bloomingly beautiful “Eden Queen” rug from Moooi.
ON THE RECORD
Drawings of vegetables, market scenes, old shopping lists: take a closer look at one of the large pendant lights in the lounge to discover these details. These lamps designed by Ingo Maurer are made up of lots of small sheets of paper and were specially created for Motel One. Not only do they provide a cosy light, they also give the interior design a unique twist.
TASTING IS BELIEVING
... particularly in our bar. And doubly so when it comes to our signature spirit, gin. The glass back wall of the bar celebrates this connection with a drawing of the herbs used to make gin. And the theme continues with the pendant lights over the bar. The papers attached to the lamps feature interesting information about the varieties of gin we serve, including their origins, alcohol content and tips on how to enjoy them.
FLOWER POWER
It’s not only our comfortable box-spring beds that make the rooms in Rotterdam a relaxing haven. Their design was inspired by the striped awnings used to shelter market stalls and the floral displays that the Netherlands is so famous for. You’ll feel fresh as a daisy after a good night’s sleep here!
