Our Hotel Cologne-Messe

Thank you for tuning in! The topic of today's design programme: our Motel One Cologne-Messe! In terms of interior, it's all about Cologne as a media city - because as Germany's media stronghold, the metropolis on the Rhine offers the whole range, from major German radio and television stations like WDR or RTL, to classic publishing houses and the world's largest computer games fair, Gamescom.

This diversity, especially the arc of tension from the beginnings of television to the current media universe, is reflected in the design of our hotel Cologne-Messe. Here, retro living room flair meets modern elements, right in the heart of the newly developed MesseCity district in Cologne-Deutz.

Welcome, dear audience!

At the reception you will not only find friendly staff, but also the visualisation "Welcome" milled into the back wall as a frequency line. Another highlight you will hopefully have noticed
on arrival: the direct view of Cologne Cathedral. This does not only look promising: The city centre is just a couple minutes away! So after you've finished your (trade fair) work, head straight into the city. Or are you here for pleasure anyway? Then head out straight away!

Place of encounter

For a refreshment, follow the large-scale wallpaper by wall&decò, which stretches over eight metres from the ground floor to the bar on the second floor. It shows people meeting in a square - just as you would imagine at a bustling trade fair. Perhaps the next interesting encounter is already waiting for you at our bar?

Screen Time

Upstairs, screens from old tube TV sets on the wall serve to present our gin highlights. In individual pieces, however, clips of popular TV shows, quiz programmes and other scurrilities of the German TV world of yesteryear can be observed. The back wall of the bar itself is reminiscent of the test pattern that used to flicker across the television sets, especially at late hours. Here, it is shown in golden abstraction on glass behind a minimalist metal shelf.

Retrospective

In the lounge, furniture style and colours are reminiscent of the time when colour television became popular: Sideboards from the 1950s and 60s and high-quality textile wallpapers from ARTE with the graphic retro patterns of those years adorn the walls - and create a living room atmosphere. Small decorative details such as old TV cameras, projectors and film reels provide thematically coherent accents.

If Paradise is half as nice...

A mix of classic and modern runs through the entire hotel: vintage uniques such as historical appliances, carpets and furniture from the years of the economic miracle, are combined with current designer pieces by Baxter, Vitra or Fritz Hansen. One special highlight piece is the "Paradise Bird" armchair by Wittmann - you will hardly find a more elegant location to enjoy your G&T in.

Green Cast

The One Lounge resembles a modern coworking space with sofa corners and high tables for working and a flowing transition to the well-stocked bar area. The lush greenery also contributes to the feel-good ambience. This is reminiscent of the once cherished living room plants that were proudly displayed - especially in the lushly overgrown "flower windows" of German apartment buildings.

Garden TV

It's going to get greener... in our inner courtyard: Thanks to cosy lounge furniture and a sea of plants, the spacious hotel terrace facing inwards is a small oasis in the middle of the trade fair environment. Relaxing and unwinding, for example in hanging chairs by kettal, is the main thing to do here.

Even if a TV test picture hangs above the bed headboard in your room: our box spring beds have already been tested and found to be comfortable! Of course, a - functioning - smart TV, safe and leather armchairs are also waiting for you. And if you want it more spacious: There are family rooms and some ground floor rooms with a separate terrace at the Motel One Köln-Messe. Take a look!
