Once a year, Berlin is transformed into a paradise for cinema lovers. During the Berlinale (aka the Berlin International Film Festival), lasting almost two weeks, red carpets are rolled out, around 400 new films are released and Berlin plays host to stars big and small from across the world. Motel One Berlin-Upper West is the perfect place for anyone who wants to experience a bit of Tinseltown glitz and glamour beyond the Berlinale Palast.

The towering hotel is located right in the heart of West Berlin, around the corner from the Zoo Palast cinema. The exterior of the building is eye-catching in itself, but it’s definitely worth taking a look inside – our 18 floors are soaked in style from the silver screen 365 days a year. Flying high

The most-photographed Motel One backdrop? The view from below of the imposing tower structure of the Motel One Berlin-Upper West, designed by the architecture firm Langhof. A hotel with the soul of a skyscraper, it brings a bit of New York glamour to the German capital.

Take one!

It’s not hard to figure out the theme of our interior design – everything revolves around Berlin as a city of film. This includes Berlin’s emblem, the bear, which forms part of our welcoming committee! A shiny version can be won as a trophy in the Berlinale.

Old classics and new styles

Historic equipment and film props such as old rolls of film, cameras, typewriters and dial-operated telephones create a special atmosphere. And our egg chair by Arne Jacobsen is an obvious must; it’s featured here in a stunning grey. Take it for a spin. Who knows what else you might discover?

Baxter Special

Berlin or Milan? As long as it feels like Hollywood, who cares? This atmosphere has been created by Italian label Baxter, who decorated our lounge as part of an exclusive partnership. From soft Dolly chairs to ultra-cosy sofas, armchairs, chaises lounges and more, you can relax in comfort.

This is the motto of our very own 10th-floor cinema lounge. Here you can watch classics such as the silent film masterpiece Metropolis.

A glimpse of the stars

Berliner Jim Rakete, photographer of the stars, provided us with high-quality photos for our interiors. His black and white portraits of German actors and actresses lend an air of cinematic charm to both the lounge and bedrooms – for Hollywood-inspired dreams.

Shaken, not stirred

With its sparkling glass and mirror surfaces, our golden bar on the 10th floor would have been the perfect backdrop for James Bond and one of his missions. Among other design highlights, we have handblown GLORI-A pendant lights by Hering Berlin to thank for this.

Panoramic bar

From our bar, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, Bikini Berlin, the zoo and the TV Tower – you can't get more ‘Berlin’ than that!

Star quality

Lights, camera, action! On our rooftop terrace you can follow in the footsteps of Leonardo DiCaprio and other superstars by enjoying the sunset and an aperitif from a DEDON director’s chair. How’s that for a happy ending?
