Rediscover history

Stay the night at an important site of contemporary history In 1989, St Nicholas’ Church in Leipzig was at the centre of the peaceful revolution in the German Democratic Republic that culminated in the fall of the Berlin Wall. Our "Bar 89" depicts the events and main moments of the period using images and tickers. The highlights of our bar include hand-made, hand-sanded glass cylinders by the English artist Heather Gillespie, decorated with motifs from the peace column in front of the hotel. Rotating blinds separate the room and symbolise movement and euphoria, protest posters convey the revolutionary atmosphere, and our guests feel as though they have landed right in the middle of that exciting time of change. Candles representing the annual light festival are a recurring design element of our hotel.

The Italian label ilide has contributed candle-shaped pendant lights that enhance the ambiance, and the dining table is overlooked by a chandelier with illuminated glass tips created by the Tuscan manufacture Il Pezzo Mancante.
Of course, we are also in touch with our Saxon roots. Sayings in the Saxon dialect adorn our reception desk in bronzed brass letters. If you would like to have a closer look at these pearls of local wisdom, we recommend the inviting and extremely comfortable seating area equipped by the Italian label La Cividina. Our design hotel is situated in the heart of the old town, right next to St Nicholas’ Church, St Thomas’ Church and the central station. Leipzig Zoo, the Messe exhibition grounds and Leipzig-Halle Airport are also within easy reach.
