Basel
Your Design Hotel near the cosmopolitan tripoint area
Once you’ve visited Basel, you’re sure to return. And not just because of our modern hotel right on Barfüsserplatz. We can be sure you’ll be back for more of the international atmosphere of this third-largest city in Switzerland and the locals’ straightforward, open manner. We welcome returning visitors with individually-designed rooms, our chic, laid-back bar and the usual warm service. Tourists and business travellers alike can look forward to a healthy, plentiful organic breakfast, free WiFi and an oasis of comfort at our Basel Design Hotel. All our hotels cater to night owls, and the reception is staffed round the clock – a particularly handy service in Basel, whose night-life boasts attractively lively clubs with casual door policies. Basel is situated on the Rhine where the borders of Switzerland, Germany and France meet, and these three influences mingle in a vibrant atmosphere. But this multi-faceted metropolis has also made a name for itself as a major trade fair venue, and a centre of the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Standard sights such as Basel Minster, the Galerie Fondation Beyeler and the Augusta Raurica, a Roman archaeological site, are all well worth a visit, sure to repay your interest.

Budget Design Hotels in Basel – your Motel One
Basel is known for its art, its sense of tradition, and its cosmopolitan nature. Our design hotel makes a great base for discovering the city, if you’re planning a weekend away or city break. Step out of the front door right onto Barfüsserplatz for a great view of the Barfüsserkirche and the city’s main tram hub. The square is lined with the lovely façades of old houses, in an impressive contrast with the modern, abstract design of our One Lounge.
Also in the neighbourhood are the Tinguely Brunnen fountain, the Kunsthalle Basel arts venue and the Swiss Architecture Museum, offering a series of exhibitions and events if you’re in the mood for high-end art and architecture. It’s a short stroll along St.-Alban-Graben to the Art Museum, another cultural highlight of the city.
Basel Minster, the banks of the Rhine and Rathaus – the best of the tripoint area
The Basel Minster on the banks of the Rhine dominates the skyline and is the undisputed landmark of the city. We recommend crossing the river and taking in the building from the opposite bank. It makes for a great photo with its dark red sandstone and contrasting tiles. The minster was constructed between 1019 and 1500, in Romanesque then Gothic styles.
A promenade along the river, lined with cafés and restaurants, brings you to the Mittlere Brücke, the town’s oldest river crossing. Dating back to the 13th century, it marks the border between the High Rhine and Upper Rhine sections of the river. For a total contrast, visit the Basel port area, an increasingly popular location that has recently been transformed into a focal point of the alternative bar and club scene. It’s a particularly pleasant place in summer to take a walk and a look round, have a satisfying dinner and later of course a dance.
