Reasons to visit Aachen
Aachen has a rich and varied history. From the early Middle Ages through to the Reformation, countless kings and Holy Roman Emperors were crowned here, and it’s also where Charlemagne himself resided. That’s not all: Aachen was reconstructed as a spa town in the 17th century and holds official spa designation to this day, with plenty of thermal springs. Alongside its historical roots, Aachen has developed into an established technology hub in North Rhine-Westphalia with RWTH Aachen University – one of the largest and longest-standing universities of technology in Europe. The city also enjoys a dash of international flair. As Germany's westernmost city, Aachen borders on Belgium and the Netherlands, and this is reflected in the city’s many cultural, architectural and culinary influences. Aachen’s location – on the outskirts of the Eifel mountains, with Maastricht, Cologne, Bonn and Düsseldorf practically on the doorstep – also makes it a great base for city day trips and exploring the nearby countryside. So whatever brings you to the place where Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands meet – come and enjoy a royal welcome at our Motel One design hotel!
