We stayed in a superior room. The rooms pillows were square like sofa cushions, extremely uncomfortable and my partner had a sore neck from them. Our room was right by the bars on the front so noise was a problem till the early hours so we didnt get much sleep. No lock on the bathroom door either. I did message the hotel and said we were staying for my partners birthday and they wrote out a card and put some sweets out on the bed which was really nice and appreciated. David on the bar was great! The hotel was very clean! We would return if pillows were different.
Reception staff very friendly and helpful changed our remote control as this wasn’t working. bed was clean and comfortable but the carpet was full of stains and hadn’t been hoovered in a while there was paper and silver foil off tablets around the bed. Walls in the bathroom dirty . We had a quiet room overlooking the carpark and for this I was grateful. Bar was well stocked . We didn’t pay for breakfast as thought it was a bit pricey for a continental breakfast . Would stay again as a great location for the city centre and the railway station
Hotel staff friendly and reception area nice. Our room was extremely hot and we couldn’t get it to cool down so unfortunately we had a terrible sleep due to this. There was also a strong smell of urine in the toilet and didn’t feel the room was very clean. Hand prints on head board and hand marks all over inside of toilet door and also hairs on the bed. Not what I would expect for what we paid for the room. I believe there was also supposed to be water in room if you are a motel one member but there wasn’t any.
Lovely hotel with great location and all staff we’re really friendly and helpful
Great location, clean room and good price.
The hotel is really nice but the room was quite noisy from people both inside and outside the hotel. There was no bin in the bedroom. The heating was not very good either. The TV signal was so bad it was unwatchable and the Internet signal free WiFi was terrible. The room looked out into the bar across the road and did not feel private.
2nd time I have stayed here. Great location. Nicely maintained. Room was a little small for my two night stay. Staff efficient and friendly.
Brilliant one night stay
Receptionist was amazing, I had booked the wrong day in error and she managed to resolve the issue. So helpful and friendly.
The place is neglected and is slowly falling apart. There are loose floorboards under the carpets, loose light fittings, and the same applies to the showers. It’s somehow holding together, but it isn’t what you would expect. The staff was friendly, but not particularly hospitality-oriented.
First impressions of the hotel were it was very lovely and the staff very friendly and helpful. I had requested a room on a higher floor/quieter part of the building as was aware that it was a central hotel near pubs etc. We got put on the first floor right next to the lift stairs. This was fine for the first night but from the second morning right through until we checked out 2 days later, it was constantly noisy. Mainly due to other guests who were drunk shouting up and down the corridors and being in the room beside ours and banging their headboard against ours. The room was so warm the first night that we requested a fan for the second night. The staff offered to move us rooms to a lower floor but we declined due to only having 1 night remaining and didn't want to move all our stuff. He suggested we open the window and turn off the air conditioning to see if it helped with the heat. Unfortunately staff stood under our bedroom window for their smoke breaks so it soon became apparent we couldn't open the window for long. Although there was a few hiccups, I know this isn't at fault of the staff and they were all very nice and welcoming. I would love to stay at another location in the future, just not Newcastle City Centre again unfortunately.
Always our go too even better with the app and discount would like a bottle of water in the room beyond that it’s always good one problem we did experience this time the extractor fan wasn’t working in the bathroom
Lovely clean room , excellent location
Great location for all Newcastle has to offer. Well equipped rooms with comfortable bed. Shower a little poor in strength. Friendly and welcoming staff. Good value for money.
Great location in the city centre. Also we chose a room with a view and it didnt dissapoint. The room was on the sixth floor and it was clean and spacious for the two of us.Shower was a delight and the rooms quirky style was very modern.Continental breakfast was most welcome and had a varied choice to suit most tastes.Staff were pleasant.Motel One certainly has its own thing going on and is different to the standard hotel and we are delighted to have stayed there.Very well priced considering its location and well worth it.
Comfortable but small room, a little warm and therefore stuffy, though we turned the heating down, the window only opened a few inches so had trouble keeping room fresh! Lovely bar area, breakfast fine but we do prefer English to continental!
Thank you so much , had a terrific time in Newcastle because of the experience of your hotel in Manchester , I came to Newcastle also Hotel was ideal for a solo traveller with very little luggage . Staff all excellent, special thanks to Rachel at desk , warm and friendly Geordie Location great , once you find your bearings , short distance to railway station and football ground I wd have given you 10 , if you had more channels on TV lol but I switched it on once to watch Wales game lol Thanks again , great value also ,
Good excellent for toilet breaking and tv remote not working
First time at motel one, great location very clean , comfy beds and lovely staff.
Can be very noisy outside the hotel at 5.30am with dustbins being emptied. Very disturbing
Extremely noisy, primarily from local clubs/bars. Room spacious and clean but very dated. Curtains too narrow for the window. Fire alarm went off twice.
First time in this Hotel. One night only. Keep doing what you are doing and will not go wrong. Very friendly, helpful staff. Spotless throughout. Would stay again if back in Newcastle
Stayed at this Motel one many times so I think that says it all!
It's a nice hotel, much nicer than some of the budget motel chains and sometimes cheaper. The free luggage store is handy.I was also allowed to check in early which was helpful.
Great staff and a really lovely welcome. Everyone was very helpful. The room was nice and clean. A very minor issue was that the bed sheet wasn't fitted properly and was coming away at the top of the bed.
Room was basic but clean, not a very good view (concrete car park). Price for room was reasonable however the price of breakfast was extortionate for a cold buffet type meal, could have went to a local restaraunt and got a far better meal. complained at reception but were told this was thair standard breakfast. If i were to book again I would reccomend room only. Should be refunded for Breakfast!!!
Great hotel, perfect location to all shops, bars & restaurants.
The hotel was lovely. The staff were friendly. Only downside was no cooked breakfast. W had to go out for breakfast. Not enough coffee sugar milk in room. Cup had no handle. Which is not good for people with hand problems.
Great location, staff are super helpful and managed to check me in well before time stated as I arrived early morning.
Very professional and quite accommodating in tricky situations. Highly recommend.
Night one good, room comfortable, clean. Night two had to suffer yapping dogs in the room next door to mine, I was in 205 the dogs in 207. I went to bed around 11.45pm the dogs didn't stop until well after 3am. I called reception 3 times, the night manager said he couldn't do any thing. later that morning at around 8.45am I spoke to the receptionist she told me that the couple had been fined, I said great, they can pay for a drink for us, she said that the fine went to the hotel. We were offered nothing and I'm appalled that we received nothing, not even a cup of coffee. Night three was fine.
Very nice hotel. Check in was smooth. Nice clean room. Bed very comfortable. Shower spot on. And no noise heard throughout the night. Hotels right in the mixer aswell. Would definitely stay here again
Friendly staff, clean room, comfortable bed and in a great location. I highly recommend this hotel.
Checked in online to then have to stand in a lengthy queue(20 mins) to collect a room pass. Reception/Bar area is lovely. Rooms are just average and are poorly designed. Our room smelt of body odour as soon as we entered and it was the same hours later when we returned. We should really have reported it but the point being is they should never be allocating rooms unless cleaned, or in this case fumigated properly. It couldn't have gone un-noticed. It is only March, but the room was boiling. We turned the heating control down as low as possible but it was ineffective. Overall, a very average hotel. Lovely and modern in the public areas but the rooms were are afterthought.
It was clean and just above basic
The hotel is nice, with friendly staff, good location and clean and tidy. The room temperature is not ideal though, I've stayed a few times and the room is always too hot. You can open the window to get the temperature down a bit but its not always effective and the streets around are noisy, so you wouldn't like to try to sleep with the window open most of the times.
Great welcome and service. Very clean room and hotel. Comfortable beds and quiet despite being in the middle of Newcastle. Would definitely stay again
Such an easy place to stay. A good choice for breakfast and everything necessary for the room. Hot showers and lovely shower gel. Hugely helpful and welcoming stuff. Good bar for after work. Always happy to return to Motel 1.
Very easy check-in. Pleasant and helpful member of staff. Room good but one bedside light not working. Great breakfast - lots of fruit and good yoghurt. Plenty of space, plates, cutlery etc. Will stay again.
Top Quality! Location was superb and the hotel was excellent - highly recommend
We have stayed here lots of times and it never disappoints great hotel and great location
A mistake had been made in our booking and this fortunately was sorted out most efficiently by Evan. I made the booking on the phone as the website wasn’t responding and the booking was made for February not March. However all was sorted for us.
I have given an 8 this time as the lifts were not working on one night of our stay. I also felt that the housekeeping was not as good. This was not due to the staff but more to do with resources. Shower/Body was and hand wash only half full along with the box of tissues. It could be due to the hospitality industry as a whole but I noticed a change.
Not my choice, my employer has a corporate rate. Big bed, small room, nice shower, average breakfast, poor tea, OK coffee with breakfast. (I'm a fan of a cooked breakfast, you do not do one and my employer has a B&B rate, so I cannot go elsewhere).
Great location. Lovely, friendly reception and bar staff
Love this hotel. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout. Our go to hotel in Newcastle.
Clean, modern and good location. Air conditioning in the room didn't work.
Clean, modern, lovely and friendly staff and tasty & generous breakfast
Lovely hotel, friendly staff. Breakfast was lovely but could do with a bit more variety ie cereals, everything else had good variety. The only issues we had was the room was really warm, Could do with a fan or updating air con.
There had been a fire alarm earlier in the evening so all lifts were not working (but this was hours later). The room I was given was extremely noisy - reception were great and did move me rooms but in the new one the window was broken and wouldn't lock closed - I couldn't face going back down to reception to move again. There are stains on the walls / ceilings / carpets, it's quite dingy and I don't think I would stay here again.
Switch on. beOne.

Newcastle
The gateway to Scotland
Newcastle upon Tyne, the northernmost UK city south of the border, is frequently referred to as the gateway to Scotland, but in fact has much more to offer. Our centrally-located Design Hotel makes a perfect base from which to explore the city’s fascinating history and the multifaceted contrasts between “coal and culture” that it represents. Sleep in cosy box-spring beds, start your day with a healthy, organic breakfast, and relax amongst designer furniture in our One Lounge.
Newcastle has a rich history, represented by its city walls dating back to the 13th century, the Cathedral Church of St. Nicholas, and the seven different bridges spanning the Tyne. Imposing buildings recall the former wealth of the coal industry, and the consequences of industrialisation. Today’s Newcastle is a lively city for art, architecture and night-life, and has impressively bridged the gap from the industrial to the post-industrial age. Welcome to “The Toon”!

“Sometimes I miss my River Tyne”
The Tyne river, frequently memorialised in song, is spanned by no fewer than seven bridges. Most interesting to tourists are perhaps the Tyne Bridge completed in the first half of the 20th century, the High Level Bridge and the comparatively recent Gateshead Millennium Bridge.
Art and culture aficionados are sure to enjoy a visit to the Laing Art Gallery, whose collection includes works by Gauguin, Turner and Holman Hunt. It is only a few minutes walk away from the hotel.
